Mujeres Latinas en Acción: Brighton Park  (Beat 922)

Mujeres Latinas en Acción is the longest-standing Latina-led organization in the nation. Founded in 1973, its mission is to empower Latinas and their families through culturally rooted, bilingual services and advocacy. While headquartered in Pilsen, their Brighton Park location—housed within the Esperanza Health Center—serves as a critical resource hub for the Southwest Side.

Services at Brighton Park

The Brighton Park office offers a specialized suite of programs designed to support survivors of violence and strengthen family bonds in a safe, neutral environment.

  • Supervised Visitation & Safe Exchange: This is one of the few free programs in Chicagoland specifically designed for low-income, Spanish-speaking families. It provides a secure, neutral space for children to maintain relationships with non-residential parents, particularly in cases impacted by domestic violence.

  • Domestic & Sexual Violence Support: The site offers bilingual crisis intervention, safety planning, and confidential counseling (individual and group) for survivors of gender-based violence.

  • Therapeutic Services for Children: Integrated with the visitation program, children can access trauma-informed therapy (such as Play Therapy and Art Therapy) to help them heal and build healthy coping skills.

  • Parent Support: Educational sessions and counseling focused on improving parent-child relationships and breaking cycles of violence within the home.

  • Community Navigation: Staff provide referrals to other core Mujeres programs, such as Empresarias del Futuro (small business training) and the Latina Leadership program.

The Brighton Park office operates with "Open Doors," meaning survivors seeking domestic violence or sexual assault services can often walk in without a prior appointment.
